Little Leaf: Start Cooking

This, I think, is the message that matters most.

Make your own food.

Eschew this system of boxes, cans and plastic that is so prevalent in the modern world, and realize that there are leagues of difference between a dish crafted in your own kitchen and a seemingly-identical one rolling out from a factory lineup.

This, I think, is the message that applies across the board – to the vegetarians, vegans, carnivores and everything in between.

Start cooking.

Start today. Sidestep the pantry and linger that much longer over the stove, clinking those pots and pans while the radio murmurs happy music in the background.

We’ve elevated cooking to an art form, some arcane sequence of spices, oils, and cast-iron cookware. Watch any modern chef, in fact, and you might come away with the idea that delicious, satisfying fare is the product of culinary training and decades of experience.

But here’s the thing: that isn’t true.

But here’s the other thing: you don’t have to be a master.

You just have to cook.

And when you do, keep this in mind:

1. It won’t always be pretty.

2. It won’t always be delicious.

3. It will always be satisfying.

Remember, lastly, that there’s little else like it – the simple thrill of a home-cooked meal, the simple flavors of those early dishes, and the hours spent in the kitchen with family and friends.

Congratulations. You’ve just made one of the simplest, most satisfying decisions you can ever make for your health.

This is the best advice I’ve read in a while. Everybody should learn how to cook, it’s an essential skill and the basics are really simple. It’s all about just having a go. Thanks for your posts Matt, I read your site regularly with great interest.

Well said Matt! But… there are some raw folks out there… not me, but just saying! :)

However, most healthy raw folks prepare their own food!

Sometimes the resultat of the dinner have been good, sometimes less good, but this time together have been very valuable. Thankyou for much good reading on your blog.
